If you’re constantly working on the move then your choice of laptop is probably crucial to both your health and happiness. No one wants to be carrying a back-breaking monster that only lasts half the journey from home to office.
The main features to consider when choosing a mobile laptop are size, weight and battery life. Whilst laptops with 15 or 15.4" screens can of course be carried around, they are still quite bulky and relatively heavy compared to the smaller screen laptops. As the screen is the heaviest part of a laptop, truly mobile laptops have screen sizes between 8" and 14.1”. A good compromise is 12.1” as these typically weight under 2kg.
In considering battery performance, generally the more powerful the laptop - the greater the demands on the battery. Manufacturer’s claims are dependent on actual use but a battery life of 5 hours is achievable.
Be aware that battery life is shortened by performing power intensive tasks such as watching DVDs and playing games, as well as being heavily affected by less obvious things like the brightness setting of your screen.
Connectivity options such as dedicated docking ports are often desirable so that you can connect your notebook to a docking station when you return home or to the office. This reduces the hassle of connecting and disconnecting peripherals such as printers, mice or external monitors.
