Easycom: The 80GB drive in this machine is not solid state. The solid state drives are around 8GB in size, as they can not have such a large capacity as mechanical HDDs.

SteveF: this model comes with Linux although you can get the same model with XP Home on it instead.

peterh: Java and Flash arent a problem on Linux, but there is currently no Shockwave player for Linux.

SteveF: There is a trial of office on most laptops but you would need to buy it separately should you need to use it for longer than the trail period.

david s: You would be able to install another operating system providing you have the drivers for the system. But by changing the operating you also run the risk of voiding any warranty with the manifacturer. so always check with them first before changing the os.

25-Nov-2008 wendy: The product is rated 3.8 stars. I guess it all depends what you want to do. Could you just summarize what it is good at and what it is less good for (for example I don't want to play games, I mainly want to surf and send emails).

Matt: It would be fine for surfing and sending emails, the only down side would be compatibility with Windows programs if you keep the Linux on there. If you have a separate copy of Windows that you could put on there yourself it would solve any of those problems.

David J: Yes this laptop would be suitable for children, however it is not designed to play games

SteveF: I'd give Acer a call. It sounds like you're missing the XP wireless drivers but unfortunately we are just a retailer and don't deal with repairs, therefore don't have the drivers.

SteveF: I'd go with F-Secure, its a streamline anti-virus package that doesn't clog the computer uplike some of the others.

SteveF: Yes, you can either transfer by a USB memory stick or if its something like a word document, e-mail and then open it on your desktop.

Easycom: No disk drive as it is more of an internet machine than anything else but it does have three USB ports.

Easycom: The laptop comes with an internet browser, few games and some office like applications like a word processing program. You can't upgrade the hard drive but you can upgrade the ram to 1GB.
